Our Motivation

There have been repeated climate fluctuations throughout the history of our 4.6 billion-year-old planet. It is beyond doubt, however, that humans are mainly responsible for the current global warming.

Especially the rapid pace, at which climate change is progressing, is an enormous problem. Neither flora and fauna nor humans can adapt at an adequate speed to the change in the environmental conditions.

If we seriously want to give the younger generation, and the generations that will follow, the opportunity to grow up on a worth living and vital planet, enormous efforts must be made immediately, both publicly and privately.

An appropriate educational program is an essential component of a rethinking in society. It must address the causes and consequences of the current climate change, and moreover show the opportunities that are still available to us today. Therefore, teachers are also responsible for such an appropriate educational program!

Unsere Motivation

Obwohl es in der Geschichte unseres 4,6 Milliarden Jahre alten Planeten immer wieder zu Klimaschwankungen kam, steht zweifelsfrei fest, dass der Mensch Hauptverursacher der aktuellen Erderwärmung ist.

Gerade die hohe Geschwindigkeit, mit der der Klimawandel voranschreitet, stellt ein enormes Problem dar. Weder Flora und Fauna noch die Menschen können sich so schnell an die veränderten Umweltbedingungen anpassen.

Wenn wir jungen Menschen, und auch den ihnen nachfolgenden Generationen, die Möglichkeit offen halten wollen, auf einer lebenswerten und lebendigen Erde aufzuwachsen, sind jetzt enorme öffentliche und private Anstrengungen erforderlich.

Ein entsprechendes Bildungsangebot, mit dem die Ursachen und Folgen des aktuellen Klimawandels, aber auch die Chancen, die sich uns heute noch bieten, thematisiert werden, ist essentieller Bestandteil eines gesellschaftlichen Umdenkens. Ein entsprechendes Bildungsangebot liegt damit auch in der Verantwortung der Lehrerinnen und Lehrer!

Even though climate change is currently one of the central issues in political debates and media, this does not mean that students are able to foresee and understand its implications. A starting point of the debate could be confronting the students with this topic and explaining to them the consequences of a business-as-usual scenario.

During a school year, teachers should be able to flexibly utilize elaborated teaching modules, materials and projects for different types of school, grades and subjects without any problems in the respective lessons, by the means of interdisciplinary work or projects.

Pupils should be shown possibilities how they can exert a positive influence and bring about changes for the better, starting with themselves, radiating into their environment and being united in groups. The active dealing with the topic of climate protection can be described as an exemplary project, which is able to form and develop positive values.

Handbook

The handbook on the project Climate Change: Understanding and Acting contains a brief summary on the scientific background for teachers, but can also be productively used for working with students. It also contains instructions and work assignments for the experiments in the climate kit.

Climate kit

To have an experimental access to the scientific background and consequences of climate change, the climate kit is currently being developed for students. Using relatively simple setups, various scientific contexts, e.g. the absorption of heat radiation by CO2, the Albedo effect, the acidification of the oceans etc., can be investigated in school experiments.
