Personal details

Prof. Dr. Christian Holler, born in 1973 in Rimsting am Chiemsee, studied physics at the LMU in Munich and received his PhD in radio astronomy from the University of Cambridge from 1999 to 2003. Since this time he knows David MacKay and his later book "Sustainable Energy - without the hot air", which awakened his enthusiasm on the topic of renewable energies, inspired him to give several lectures on the subject and to write his book “Erneuerbare Energien: Ohne Heiße Luft”. For several years now, Christian Holler has been a professor at the "Hochschule München". He tries to implement an important insight from his book - where can one save energy most effectively in private life - by traveling as much as possible by public transport and train, in total more than 10,000 km per year.

About the presentation

How much energy does our modern lifestyle require? Can we cover it from renewable sources? What possibilities are available for generating energy, and how great is its potential? We all need to understand the field of energy in order to have a voice in one of the most important social issues. So that we can decide together how much energy we want to consume in the future and where the energy should come from.

Prof. Holler's talk is not only elaborately researched and verified from a scientific point of view, but also the presentation of the content (the energy metabolism is given per person and day, for example) is absolutely clear and lends itself to direct implementation in the classroom. The presentation is also so entertaining that you might forget how serious the subject actually is.
